Are these scam sites or does buying it involve some secret catch that will cause me to spend way more than the other sites? If someone can please help me because i have been searching for a long time and i dont want to spend $2300 if i can spend around $100 like these sites offer.
Thanks!
ps. if someone has one they are willing to sell that would be most helpful!
Google is your friend. They both seem to do bait-and-switch tricks. (Advertise a too-good-to-be-true deal, take your money, and then tell you it's "out of stock" and pressurise you to pay more for a different camera, plus you have to may more for things that other dealers include, that is, if you EVER get your camera...)

They are probably in the same category as Abes of Maine. Possibly grey market goods and/or there has to be some sort of phone call to "confirm" the order at which point you get pressed to buy some sort of accessories package from them. And if you don't buy the package your order will most likely get "lost in the shuffle" or immediately go on "back order" at which point in time you'll spend weeks e-mailing/calling/harassing before you actually get your camera.
Or everything could go smoothly. But that's a lotta money to play around with.
Quote:It's most likely grey market. You'll just get the bare bones camera. No warranty. No accessories. No batteries. No nothing. It's basically a scam.
Quote:I thought the same thing. I tried to order a Canon GL2 (for a really cheap price...) I then got a call from Ken at usphotonation.com who said that this model is a basic model with no cords, US warranty, batteries, manual, software, etc.... BARE MODEL that is the MALAYSIAN MODEL!!! He then tried to bamboozle me into paying about $770 extra for it "to work in the USA" meaning, buying the right cables, etc....
Ken also said that I would get charged 180 cancellation fee, totally ridiculous!!!!!! I told him I had to think about it then called my credit card company to make sure that there was no "hidden" charge fee like $180 for cancellation. Before I could even call Ken back, he called me back on that Sunday to say that his spoke with his manager and I would also get a 90 dollar filter in this package but I had to get it today.
Canon has a 250 rebate until the end of this month (Sep. 2005) with the rebate this Canon Gl2 would have been $1359 (before rebate) at usphotonation but according to Ken, with the US package included, I was REALLLY looking at $2129 plus shipping........
DO NOT EVER ORDER FROM USUPHOTONATION.COM--THEY ARE SCAMMERS!

Quote:I completed the purchase of a USA warranty and packaging Canon Digital Rebel XT camera and lens by their online site expresscameras.com . I recieved an email request for me to contact them by phone for confirmation of the order. Salesperson tried to sell me additional items that I did not need at incredibly inflated prices, and when I refused he tried to sell me the battery and charger for the camera, saying that they were not included with the packaging, which was a lie per Canon USA info.
Quote:This place is truely a scam site. Save yourself some grief and order somewhere else. I realized it was a scam as soon as I looked at some reviews of merchants, but it was too late. I have been trying to return the package for days. You only have 7 days to return, but you have to call for an RMA number first. They are only open on the phones from 11-5 eastern time. Calling will cause you to wait for 20 minutes on the phone, to be told their computers are down.
Quote:After placing my order on-line, I called to confirm my order and was NOT suprised to get a high pressure "Supervisor" that "confided" a special offer to me and an upgrade package for an additional $300. This upgrade package was SUPPOSED to include upgrades to the battery, lens filters and upgrades to the camera bag and tripod. Nothing that I received was worth the "upgrade". Nor did they ship the remote control. I have run out of space to vent. Avoid this vendor.
Quote:THE WORST!!! Bait and switch!!! I ordered a Sony HVR-A1U online. I paid at checkout with AMEX card $1299 plus $38.97 S&H and have invoice. Told the camera was in stock. I called to confirm card number and CCV number. Still told it was in stock and would be sent out tomorrow (Monday). I got an email on Monday saying it is now back ordered. After a call to the store I am told there is one available for $2200 as a top US model. BUYER BEWARE. THEY SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR INTERNET FRAUD!!!!!!!!
