I installed vista and didn't like i, so now I want to go back to XP. I read one way to do it by booting your XP CD and formatting the partitions but I have XP on a thumbdrive and my burner doesn't work so I can't burn XP to a CD. So is there a way to boot from my thumbdrive or some other alternative to uninstall vista & reinstall XP?

No.
You need to have an XP cd/dvd to be able to reinstall it.
