Hi there. My very first Backup of a dvd is on 6% right now. In the preview window though it shows the video with loads of rectangular blocks over it in different patterns. Is this wat the original will look like when its done? Have i done summat wrong? Or is this usual?

Im not really sure, Ive never paid any attention to the preview window before. Why dont you abort the encode and view whatever you have and if you see those recatangular blocks then you probably have a problem. If so, maybe we can help.

Life is but a dream...so wake me up already!!!

Are you using divX 5.1?? That comes with a cool preview window and all its showing you is where divx is allocating data to specific areas in the video. By the time everything finishes you wont have any blocks in it at all, you will have a nice video.

Yeah the video came out perfect. Cheers. The sound was just lots of static though. LOL. Im working on it though. Gonna try and solve this one myself and build a bit more of an understanding for encoding.

If the sound was just lots of static you will need to downgrade to Cdex Version 1.40 Release and recreate the mp3 file. The newer versions create static!

No need to redo the whole process again. Just recreate the mp3 file with cdex (make sure you use the original wav file from dvd2avi). Test it with Media Player to make sure its not static. Then in VirtualDub go video menu -> direct stream copy, and in audio menu, select the new wav file, and direct stream copy, and save the AVI.

If somehow the audio and video are out of sync, you may need to do the whole backup again.
