I use Ulead VideoStudio to do basic editing for home video. My camcorder records on to mini-dvds. For the best quality should I import these dvds into Ulead or use my capture card to capture directly to an uncompressed AVI?

Assuming your pc reads the mini-dvd's, import them from your dvd player directly into your media library. You can not get any better quality than what's currently on the mini dvd's.
