Okay, this is going to sound seriously n00b, but humor me. Ive searched a ton of posts and read a ton to tutorials and all that good stuff, but its crunch time and I just need some advise from someone with some experiance.

Okay that said. Ive had an XBox for about two years. Recently the disc drive pooped out and Im getting a new box. With the new one I want to be able to do three things. 1) Put in a 140GB HD (I know only 137 regiseter) 2) "Backup" games to the hd (i.e. be able to play games straight from the hd and 3) Load a few emulators so I can play some games from other consoles (which i own ;)) So thats all Im looking to make the box do.

The problem is when I read all the tutorials there seems to be a million mod chips, even more software, and yet more bios. My questions to someone with experiance is this:

I have not bought anything at this point.

What version XBox sould I try to get? (I read about a million hints on how to try and guess the version)

What mod chip? (Im inclined to get a Xecutor 2.2 soldering chip But pro? lite?)

What do I need to do beyond installing the chip? I know I need a new bios, likely X2 4799. And that Ill probabily want to install EvoX.

As for the HD, Ive read enought to know that Maxtor works best- and I dont think putting this in will be TOO big a prob. But I need to crazy back stuff up?

I know this is all super n00b-tastic, but I really dont want to botch this up- plus my requirements for the moded box are fairly minimal.

Any help would be great.
