Hi. I recently bought a ten-pack DVD-R's made by "TDK". I have tried several times to burn movies and/or music with ConvertXtoDVD, Nero and so on... It doesn't work, and I really don't know why. Please tell me if there is any more info you need to be able to maybe help me out...

Thx in advance, Felix.

Post any and all errors you get. What burn speed are you using? Limit your burn speed to 4X or 8X maximum if you havn't already done so. TDK's are the brand that I use (besides verbatim) and since my methods of backing up have improved (thanks to all at AD) There hasn't been a coaster made due to poor media quality.

Well, I think that maybe my DVD-burner does not support DVD-R or something... Cause when I try to burn with Nero it says "Please insert an empty disc to write to" although the disk is in the right recorder..
Here's an image :

And in ConvertXtoDVD I've converted it for a long time and then this message comes up when the converting is done :

Maybe you see there why I think my ******* burner doesn't support DVD-R...

Thx for helping btw...

Go to the manufacturers website and check for firmware updates.

@fellun

Get yourself some DVD+R blanks, your drive [NECDVD+RW ND1100A] does NOT support -R. Unusual in the day and age.

i've got just the info needed for this, but AD doesn't seem to search for posts over pre-2007 anymore....having to use google, basically this drive (via firmware) can be morphed into an NEC 1300A which introduces -R burning but only up to 4x which isn't overly useful as 4x discs are increasing harder to find...

googling....

edit- found one of my old-ish replies -

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/413132/2495548

and pasted here also -

Quote:
the standard NEC 1100A can manage the following = 4 DVD+R, 2.4 DVD+RW

From looking here - http://herrie.org/upgrdr.html the 1100A can be morphed into a 1300A, (ie via firmware update you can wring a little more life out of this burner, but not a great deal as 4x discs are becoming more scarce now) but it's a 50% success rate for either (i interpret the success rate to mean 50% success rate of burning to media at the newer speeds of the 1300A firmware, not 50% chance of the firmware upgrade itself working).

if you morph this old drive into a 1300A, you have access to the following new capabilities - 4.0x DVD-R & 2.0x DVD-RW

Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W

i started out using -R (just because they're the first type i bought), eventually i used +R (obviously only if i had burners that could booktype them), now i use both -R and +R without even checking which discs i pick up (i do a lot of 'multiple recorder' burns in Nero) and even mix 8x and 16x discs in the multiple recorder burns (i do primarily 8x burns).

edit- i personally care little for the differences between -R and +R myself as i don't have a problem with any discs, anywhere

thats what i was thinking in the back of my mind that most people are booktyping to dvd rom. so why even care about +/- dvd .but my nec does not booktype anyway.just trying to see if the -r are beneficial for some reason?

Ok, flashing the drive works fine, aswell as the burning starts with my -R's... Then, this happens :

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/9797/nerofailureoc7.jpg

The burning stops at 0% with this error... :/ Anyone knows about this problem ?
