i always set my speed in the program i am burning with, but the burner will tend to do what it thinks is best. Which is usually around half the maximum speed of the disc you use.
What kind of Taiyo Yuden discs did you get. There are different kinds and two different grades (value & Premium)
Personally i have used them for a while now and have never had a coaster (i use only the premium line 8X DVD-R thermal silver laquer)
always burned at 4X

Not sure what line this is (a few were giving to me) but it just has the silver face. Then I have a few with the white printable face. I tried a second one with Imgburn at 2x still didn't work. Next I'll try Decrypter at 4x and see what happens....

the one i have is also the silver top type, i never use printable though. Try DVD Decrypter at 4X but IMGburn and DVD Decrypter are made by the same guy, so they will give you the same results probably. IMGburn is just the updated version of DVD Decrypter that can only burn discs and not rip PS2 games from an original list as the maker got in a little hot water because of that feature.

used Decrypter still didn't work. So I tried 2x,4x & auto all coasters. the last time Imgburn wouldn't get past writing the lead in had to close it down. then open decryp and burn with that. Could it be the burner? I just swaped out the OEM TEAC DVD+R for a lightscribe DL Samsung dvd. I updated the latest firmware after install burned a few audio cd those works fine.

well, the only real way to know is to try it. But i can tell you i have been using TY discs for about a year now, and have used DVD Decrypter & IMGburn more times then i can count. So i really do not think it is the discs or programs.

Ok I backed-up LOTR: 2 Towers with Nero and it worked. Still don't know what the problem was (could have been the Killzone game file) But I'll try again and burn a copy of LOTR using Decryp & Imgburn and if it works we know it was the ISO.

I am having trouble with ImgBurn too.Instaled version 2-2 and 2-3 and the laptop suddenely could not recognise anythign I put into the drive, no matter if accessed via ImgBurn or otherwise.

Uninstalled it and the same drive seems to work fine now with Windows native burner and explorer.
