Anyone else having faulty drive errors with rawdump? I have the 8164BK revision 0L06 and when i load a wii disk and try to dump, it sees its a wii disk, then gives me a faulty drive error. Seems to be somewhat of a common problem with these maybe after googling. Has anyone heard of a solution? Thanks in advance!

Found the problem. At first I thought it was firmware, but i changed out my IDE to USB cable with another i have at home (didn't really want to because its a back up hard drive) and now the program works. The cable that does not work can be found here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260093956698

The USB to IDE that does work has a board inside of it where as the one that doesn't, does not. Hope this helps.

I get the same error message. I have an LG 8162B, but when I put a disc in, I hear it spin, then it just stops and nothing happens, then when I run rawdump, it says faulty disc drive. Any help?? Normal DVDs work no problem.

Thanks

Problem solved! In order for the program to identify the Wii disc, I insert the disc into the drive while the program is starting up.

This is what works for me may or may not help other people so I thought I would post it. Start RawDump, open drive tray, place disc in tray, click start dump, then immediately close tray. Seems to work everytime so far.

I have been getting the same error when I try to dump a game. I've tried to insert the game when Raw Dump is starting up and still have the same problem. I tried repairing .net framework 2.0 should I uninstall and reinstall instead? Thanks

I dumped and burned about 5 games already with my LG 8164B DVD ROM. But when trying to burn th latest one i get the "fauly drive" error. I don't understand how my install could all of a sudden be bad or the cable to the disks not work.
I also tried doing that put in the cd while the program starts up thing, and it does not seem to work.
PLEASE HELP!

After playing with it a bit more, it seems that some games work fine for dumping (zelda, shrek), while others give me the "faulty drive" error (mortal combat). Anyone have an idea if a new protection is being put on wii games now or something?

there is a jumper on the back of your drive. for primary/master/slave/single drive. you have to configure it correctly for the drive to read the gamecube games correctly. For me, i simply removed that jumper. i can now backup my games.

This is the problem i am having with rawdump 2.0 and wii discs & i am using a LG 8164b dvd reader!

It starts the wii disc dump then approx 20-25 minutes later rawdump just stops and closes as if it has been closed ,once i click on the rawdump icon to restart it then choose START DUMP it gives me the option to continue last session then it will do exactly the same 20- 25 minutes later so it takes approx 5 -6 attempts until it completes the whole wii disc dump.I have tried changing the drives from master to slave etc((as i have to dvd drives installed))also tried running rawdump alone with nothing else running in the background ,tried net framework 3 aswell but still exactly the same problem,it would just be nice to dump the whole wii disc in 1 attempt say during the night! any help on this would be great cheers

I posted this on another thread but thought my advice would be relevant to other people who are computer newbies. Sometimes you might actually have the right drive (check the label that is actually on the LG drive you got) but your IDE CABLE CONNECTOR PINS may not be securely attached. Make sure all your connections are nice and tight.

When I first got my LG drive I hooked it up to my laptop computer through an external enclosure and I got the same problems: the drive was listed as a different name, Rawdump wouldn't read a disc, and actually the drive wouldn't read ANYTHING! It was actually recognized as a DVD drive, andlisted under device manager but as the wrong thing (I think it said GDR8144 instead of GDR8164). When I figured out it wasn't reading ANYTHING, I opened up my drive/external enclosure and then found out that my connections weren't really fastened securely...the ones that were the problem were the ones with the tons of pins you have to connect, not the power cord.

After I connected it my drive TOTALLY works...it's now Rawdumping my Zelda: Twilight Princess and Resident Evil 4 with no problems. I still have to see if my backup copy works and can function on my Wii, but if you are one of those people getting the "Error! You might have a Faulty Drive" messages when you use RawDump, check the connections first before you get upset that you got the wrong DVD drive. I know this is probably common sense for most people, but in case your drive isn't reading the disc during Rawdump and is also not reading anything, this is one easy solution.

Also, this brings up the point that for those of you who only have laptops and can't install an LG drive actually into your laptop, an external 5.25" enclosure with USB cable works really well as an alternative solution. There's a cheap one at Eaglebit.com (was actually free for me after rebate but it expired and is now $20 + shipping, I'm sure you can find it cheaper at other local companies) that I used.

I have the same problems with a 8162B. I tried it on different PC's already but always same error "you might have a faulty drive".
Does anybody know if the LED of the DVD rom should stay on after inserting the Wii disk? And if the disk should be visual in windows?
In my case the DVD rom starts spinning when inserting Wii disk but stops after some time and LED goes off.

My procedure for Rawdump success:

1. Run in safe mode

2. Do not insert the disc until AFTER you start Rawdump.
Wii discs are unreadable by Windows and the drive will sit there and try to read it until it times out and quits. Depending on your configuration this can be several minutes.

Disclaimer:
This may not work for you, but should give you a reasonably good chance at success. After switching to this procedure I am 100% in making Single Layer backups (I use Friidump for SSBB)

Hey I've been using RawDump to backup my games for about a year now and everything has been working great until just recently. Whenever I put in any game (I've even deleted the Wii Sports off my computer to retry it) and click "Start Dump", it correctly finds the DVD name but then a box immediately pops up saying

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

An attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file.
."

Then at the very bottom is says what the problem is (I think....I don't know much about how to fix computers or anything) and it says

"JIT Debugging

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging calue set in the system.windows.forms.section. The application must also be compiled with debugging enabled. When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handles by this dialog box."

Can anyone explain to me how to fix this? I'm not even sure how I caused it because I don't go to the advanced features in programs and mess with it.

Thanks Very Much!
