formatting memory stick

May be a silly question, but do i need to have folders on the memory stick to store music/photos etc like the psp?

I cant find how to format the stick on my ps3.

I have put a bunch of pictures on the card but cant view them

The easiest way (I think) would be to copy all your stuff to your computer(if you can), then use the PS3 to format the stick. I would think that the format option would be in the settings section. I dont actually have a PS3 yet so I dont know for sure.
