Help needed to reset password!!!

After installing Fedora 5 and the addon CD, I have fogotten the UNIX password and during login, after typing "startx" it ask me for the password after trying to figure out the password, it will display "login fail".

So after reboot at the kboot, I tried to reset the password used by typing passwd, so I just key in a 8 letters password and after re-confirmation, it shows "passwd: Authentication token lock busy".

I'm stuck!!! Can anyone please help?

Sorry if this is of no help, but are you meaning the Fedora login p/w? If so, I'm pretty sure its u/n: "root" and p/w: "root". I put Fedora 6 on a virtual machine on my computer and thats the administrative account/password for it. Again, I dont know anything about linux so I'm not sure if this is just a stupid comment or not. Still learning the new OS.

Tried that, can't work... Guess have to format the HDD again and re-install it.... *sign* another 2 hours of waiting time...
