Hey all im back with a headpin helpin of guides! all in 1 plac eto remove some clutter from the forums! there are good ways to load ps2 backups WITHOUT a mod chip or voiding your warranty PLEASE CONTRIBUTE!

First Rip The Game!

Step 1:Rip the game

Programs to use (do a search in Google and you'll find the programs easily):
CD: Alcohol 120%
DVD: DVD Decrypter

Ripping a DVD (DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0):
1) Open DVD Decrypter. Select "Mode:ISO:Read".

2 Select the "Source" (DVD drive) and "Destination" (name of the image file to be saved).

3 Press the button with a disc pointing towards a HDD to rip the game.

Burning a DVD (DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0):
1 Open DVD Decrypter. Select "Mode:ISO:Write" (refer to the top picture).

2 Select the "Source" (image file ? can be number of different formats, the ones that DVD Decrypter supports are: *.BIN, *.CDI, *.CDR ,*.DVD ,*.GI, *.IMG, *.ISO, *.LST, *.MDS, *.NRG, *.PDI, *.UDI) and "Destination" (DVD Burner).

3 For DVDs never burn at above 4x max (using a 8x media). I usually go with 2x, 2.4x or 4x. It?s also a good idea to verify the burn after you?ve burnt the disc, in that case check the box that says "Verify" before clicking on the button with a HDD pointing towards a disc to burn the game.

Ripping a CD (Alcohol 120% v1.9.5 Build 3823):
1 Open Alcohol 120%. Go to "Image Making Wizard".

2 Select your CD reader under "CD/DVD Device", you can leave the "Read Speed" at "Maximum" (unless there?s problem reading the disc because it?s scratched, in that case try reading it at a lower speed). Choose "Play Station 2" under "Datatype", then press "Next".

3 Select where you want to save the image to, the "Image name". "Image format" can be anything ? Alcohol 120% can read all the image formats it can create when it comes to burning the file. I have used "Media Descriptor Image file (*.mds)" here.

4 Press "Start" and it?ll start ripping the CD.

Burning a CD (Alcohol 120% v1.9.5 Build 3823):
1 Open Alcohol 120%. Go to "Image Burning Wizard" (refer to the top picture).

2 Select the image file by clicking on ?Browse? (Alcohol 120% supports: *.MDS, *.BWT, *.CCD, *.CUE, *.CDI, *.PDI, *.NRG, *.ISO), then press "Next".

3 Again choose "Play Station 2" under "Datatype". Choose your "CD/DVD Recorder" and "Write speed". For CDs I usually burn at max speed, and never had problems with it, but you can burn at a lower speed if you want. Click on "Start" to start burning the disc.

And thats how you burn and rip a game now its time to play it!

Putting the game in the drive as it is will not work see sony thought that if they put a block on games not of there own it would stop piracy but again we beat them!

Things you will need
Swap Magic(Swapmagic3.com)

A Flip Top(thegiantstore.com NOTE:Make sure to get the right one for your model and type(fat, slim)

OR if you dont have one/cant get one you can use the butterknife trick(http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/288331 on how to do it)

A Burned Game(see how to burn/rip games above

about 5 minutes(less if your slow :D )

This is one of the most SIMPLE METHODS of doing this and i REALLY REALLY Hope your getting the flip top because the knife trick CAN break your ps2 if your doing it wrong so GET A FLIP TOP EXTREMELY EASY!

step 1: Installing your fliptop
this is really really easy also if you cant find where the screws are look in your instruction manual! they should have pictures in there =\

1) Unscrew the top of your PS2
2) Remove and replace the original flip lid with your new cover
3) Replace the top cover
easy as cake and it does not void your warranty!(knife trick does!)

OK Now for playing your backups with swap magic this is also VERY EASY(4 steps MUST use the flip top to do this otherwise read WAY below!)

This is so easy ive put pictures for ya! make a song out of it if you want!

First insert your Swap Magic Disk into your ps2!

Then wait for it to load(takes up to 10 seconds sometimes longer)

open up your fliptop Take out the Swap Magic Cd and put in your Backup

Let It Load(may take a while so go get something to drink or something)

And it Loads! You have just made and played your very first backup!

I bet you feel pretty special huh? well lets say you cant get a flip top well then is time for another way of booting it up(the extremely long and boring way)

Booting your Backup using Action Replay

Now lets say you got an action replay after you've beaten the game and playing again with chats for fun? well lets say you wanna backup that game but cant buy the flip top or swap magic? heres a long boring way of how to do it

(This only takes forever the first time after that its just boring and very dangerous to your ps2!!!)

NOTE:this also works with a flip top but if you have sed fliptop then use the guide above!

Things you will need
Ps2 Booting Program(http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=elfs)

Action Replay Max PS2 CD(now will be called ARMAX)

Max Media Creator PC Software(Comes with ARMAX)

2 Blank CD-r's

About an hour... if your really really fast!

Lets Get Started!!!

This guide works for: Fat PS2 & Slimline PS2 (instructions for both bellow)

You only need ARMAX the FIRST time you do this so borrow it or buy it and use the cheats!

First off there is something you should take a look at when you bought your ARMAX you need to look at the case the one that comes in the blue case is MUCH easier to get running but the newer one in the silver tin needs a specially formatted cd!

1. Right, to start with you need to get cogswaploader(the ps2 boot program) onto a medium that ARMAX understands. For the older version, you can just put the file on a pendrive(flashdisk). For the newer version (the one that comes in a silver tin), you need to put the file on a specially formatted cd.
Heres how to get the cd

download the "Independence Compiler Program 3.0" from the link here (you need to click the small floppy disc icon to download): http://www.console.iscentral.net/download.php?view.1

ii. extract the files from the .rar file you've downloaded (you'll need a compression program such as WinRAR to do this)

iii. now load the independencecompiler3.0.exe (i'll call it IC3 from now on and its located http://www.console.iscentral.net/download.php?view.1) file.

4. Right - you now need to make a decision that will largely be based on whether you have a Fat ps2 or Slimline ps2. I'll try and explain this simply: The IC3 program gives you the option of installing cogswaploader onto the memory card for instant loading when you put in a ps1 game of your choice. This function is otherwise known as the "memory card exploit/independence exploit". You can only do this if you have a Fat ps2. If you have the new Slimline ps2, you do not have this option and must load cogswaploader through ARMAX every time.

2. If you have the old version, just put cogswaploader on your pendrive, load the media player on ARMAX and then select your cogswaploader.elf file, it will load.

Loading Cogswaploader on Slim PS2

1a. Load IC3 (see step 3 above)
2a. Select the following options:

STEP 1: make no change.
STEP 2: select "other" and find cogswaploader.elf on your computer.
STEP 3: make no change.
STEP 4: make no change.
STEP 5: If in America, choose NTSC, if in Europe choose PAL
STEP 6: make no change.
STEP 7: make no change.
Output format: cdimage (bin/cue)
Installer only?: NO (this option is essential!!!)

3a. Click START - IC3 will ask you if you want to continue twice: click YES on both occassions and it will load an MS-DOS window whilst it creates the bin/cue files. It'll then tell you it's done and has put your bin/cue files in C:\AusDigital\

4a. Burn your bin/cue file to a blank cdr using Nero or equivalent (always select the .cue file when it asks which file to burn - the .cue is a link to the .bin!)

5a. You've just made your cogswaploader boot disc!

6a. Now you need to be able to load your cogswaploader boot disc through ARMAX - there's only one way i know of doing this on an unmodified ps2 - the file cdloader.elf.

You'll need to source 3 things for this:

i. cdloader.elf - there's several versions of this around, and there's only one version that'll work (downloadable here: http://www.geocities.com/jjax1975/CDLOADER.zip )

ii. another blank cdr!

iii. A way of getting cdloader on your cdr - this is Max Media Creator PC software that comes with ARMAX. You only need one file, the cdloader.elf, on your cd - burn it with Max Media Creator (or make a bin/cue with Max Media Creator and burn it with Nero)

7a. You should now have 2 cdrs: a) Cogswaploader boot disc and Cdloader.elf on a cdr to load through ARMAX.

8a. It's all easy from now on!!!! - do the following:

i.) Load ARMAX, select "Media Player"
ii.) Put in your cdloader.elf disc and it should say cdloader.elf on the screen - press Play to load.
iii.) The cdloader screen should display and if you press O on the controller, it'll show in English text!
iv.) Press the eject tray and put in an official PS2 cd (ARMAX cd will do!)
v.) Now swap the disc for your cogswaploader boot disc (without the ps2 knowing, so no pressing eject!) - use a flip top or slide tool (HIGHLY recommended - see here if you're unsure how: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/288331)
vi.) Press X on the controller and cogswaploader will load!!!!

So now your all set up and running now to load cogswaploader in future you just need to repeat the list in step 8a.

Loading cogswaploader On a Fat PS2

Right you have 2 options:

a.) Follow the instructions for the Slimline PS2 which means loading cogswaploader through ARMAX everytime - read above.

b.) Install cogswaploader onto your memory card (memory card exploit) using ARMAX - you'll need to use cdrs only to write the files to memory card. After then, you put in a PS1 game of your choice and up comes cogswaploader and any other elfs you want to use. (REDUCED LOADING TIME!) - read below...

1b. Load IC3 (see step 3 at top of page)
2b. Select the following options:

STEP 1: Put your chosen PS1 trigger disc in your cd drive and click "Get", making sure it's looking in the right drive or it'll not find the disc! Once it displays the SLES (or SLUS) code, click "Add" and the code will appear in the box at the right.

STEP 2: make no change (LaunchELF 3.4 is selected)

STEP 3: Browse for, and add Cogswaploader.elf (and any other elf files you want) - the ones u've chosen will appear in the box on the right.

STEP 4: make no change. (No - unless u want to network PS2 with PC)

STEP 5: If in America, choose NTSC, if in Europe choose PAL

STEP 6: make no change.

STEP 7: Select the "Keylauncher" button.

Output format: cdimage (bin/cue)

Installer only?: YES (this option is essential!!!)

3b. Click START - IC3 will ask you if you want to continue twice: click YES on both occasions and it will load an MS-DOS window whilst it creates the bin/cue files. It'll then tell you it's done and has put your bin/cue files in C:\AusDigital\

4b. Burn your bin/cue file to a blank cdr using Nero or equivalent (always select the .cue file when it asks which file to burn - the .cue is a link to the .bin!)

5b. You've just made your Memory Card Exploit Boot Disc (MC boot disc)!

6b. Now you need to be able to load your MC boot disc through ARMAX - :

Things you need now
i. cdloader.elf - Download Cdloader.elf!(downloadable here: http://www.geocities.com/jjax1975/CDLOADER.zip )

ii. another blank cdr!

iii. A way of getting cdloader on your cdr - this is Max Media Creator PC software that comes with ARMAX. You only need one file, the cdloader.elf, on your cd - burn it with Max Media Creator (or make a bin/cue with Max Media Creator and burn it with Nero)

7b. You should now have 2 cdrs: a) MC boot disc cool.gif Cdloader.elf on a cdr to load through ARMAX.

8b. It's all easy from now on!!!! - do the following:

i.) Load ARMAX, select "Media Player"

ii.) Put in your cdloader.elf disc and it should say cdloader.elf on the screen - press Play to load.

iii.) The cdloader screen should display and if you press O on the controller, it'll show in English text!

iv.) Press the eject tray and put in an official PS2 cd (ARMAX cd will do!)

v.) Now swap the disc for your MC boot disc (without the ps2 knowing, so no pressing eject!) - use a flip top or slide tool (HIGHLY not recommended - see here if you're unsure how: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/288331 )

vi.) Press X on the controller and the MC Exploit Installation Program will load - All of your files on the disc will be put on the memory card in slot 1 (so make sure there's a couple of MBs free on there first!)

Great now your all set theres only a few more things left to do(told you it was long!)

How To use Cogswaploader

Once you've got cogswaploader loaded (it'll show your PSX boot game as a black circle), you load a PS2 dvd game backup like this:

1. Eject disc tray normally and put in an "big"/"high TOC" official PS2 game (like GTA)

2. The screen will say PS2 DVD

3. Press "X" on the controller

4. The screen will say "Use Cogswap"

5. Manually eject the disc tray (by slide tool or fliptop method as above)

6. Replace the official PS2 game with your backup DVDR

7. Push the disc tray back in and pull white cog to the left to close (or close fliptop if that's the method you're using)

8. Press "X" on the controller

9. Your backup game will load as normal!

There you have it now that you have done all this the backup should load as a normal game! long and boring right? at least you don't have to do it EVERY time you want switch games!

Well my post is getting very long but i must continue! I MUST PUSH FORWARD!!

Loading Backups With a Gameshark

OMG like its like the gameshark...like now lets see how we can load up backups with them This method is VERY VERY SWAPPY(needs ALOT of swapping!)
(Note this is the only way to play backups using the Swap Magic trick with cheats its basically the same but still =\

Things You Need:
swap magic CD & DVD

gameshark version 3/4

cdloader v7

you can download cdloader from the internet (see above)but the gameshark and swapmagic you have to buy because there coded for PS2. Finally you need to find out what version PS2 you have if you don't know, you can go to http://www.mod-chip.com/ps2version.htm
Ok once you've done all of the above you can follow the directions below and play PS2 backup games. ENJOY

Gameshark 2 V3/4/AR MAX

CD BACKUPS
1. Insert and let gameshark V3/4 boot

2. Select the codes you want/if none skip this step

3. Select Start Game

4. The cd/dvd drive will now eject automatically.

5. Replace the Gameshark 2 V3/4 with the swap magic cd.

Once you have made the appropriate swap press eject to close the cd/dvd
drive and press x.

6. Once the Swap magic cd has loaded do the following...

7. Swap the swap magic cd with the cdloader using fliptop/knife trick and press x.

8. Once the cdloader has loaded press eject and swap the cdloader with the swap magic cd and press eject to close.

9. Wait about 7 seconds and swap the swap magic cd with your cd-r backup and press x.

10. Your backup will now load with cheats.

DVD BACKUPS
1. Boot Gameshark 2 V3/4

2. Select the codes you want/if none skip this step

3. Select Start Game

4. The cd/dvd drive will now eject automatically.

5. Replace the Gameshark 2 V3/4 with the swap magic cd.

6. Once you have made the appropriate swap press eject to close the cd/dvd drive and press x.

7. Once the Swap magic cd has loaded do the following...

8. Swap the swap magic cd with the cdloader using fliptop/knife trick and press x.

9. Once the cdloader has loaded press eject and swap the cdloader with a high toc original such as the swap magic dvd and press eject to close.

10. Wait about 7 seconds and press x.

11. Once the screen that says "swap DVDR by ea method" comes up swap the high toc original(swap magic DVD) with your DVD-R backup using fliptop/knife trick and press x.

12. Your backup will now load with cheats.

NOTE:In step 7 in CD backups and 8 in DVD backups, if you have a version 9/10 and not a version 1-8 swap the swap magic cd with the dvdloader not cdloader using fliptop/knife trick

Meh Easy but still kinda long =\ anyway if you have a guide you would like to submit on this post then PLEASE PM ME that way we can all get rid of the clutter!

Thanks!~Mexicanto!!!

it definitely has sticky potential, just fix some of the "[size=5]" (i dont see it?) stuff and add bold to headings so they are easier to get to. and add red titles to areas about different things, like "burn/backup" and "booting the backup" would be red. overall, its really nice. just organize it better and then ask a mod to stickit.

jgarces07:The shoulder buttons on my DS (not Lite) are not working. Any advice?
nintenut:This is going to sound a bit odd, but it works, put your lips around the trigger and blow really hard, it works.
bee_cup: My DS Lite L button don't work...
nintenut: Put your mouth on it and blow, gets the dust out, and sounds obscene!

very true, sticky threads already explain pretty much everything. But the problem is that people never take time to read them. Just like the forum rules. It is a very nice guide though. Best way to do it is to have a site somewhere that you can post it. That way when you see a question you just throw them a link and then you do not have to explain it all. Like this for example: http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/

If you do not have one i would be happy to post it there and PM you a link, you would get full credit of course.
