Hello all, I have seen many posts on divx/subtitles, but I think NO ONE has answered this question.

I have some DOWNLOADED (NOT RIPPED MYSELF) DivX films that I want to burn with the subtitle files.

I have .sub files with some of the movies; .idx, .srt, and .smi with others.

HOW do I burn the subtitle files into the divx when I burn the divx in Nero??

Also, what are the .idx, .srt, and .smi??

Any help here will be awesome guys, thanks a lot - J

I think you should add your subs to the clip "permanently".

Hope this guide will help.

it has been very useful for me.

Thank you for the response XLUCIOX.

However, I don't want to convert the DivX to VCD or SVCD, because then you need 2 or 3 cds instead of one, and I also don't want to spend hours re-encoding.

Exactly; I want to PERMANENTLY add subs to the movie when I burn it.

Also, I think your link is dead, but I will manually go see if I can find that article.

Anyone else out there have the knowledge?

To "permanently burn" subtitles into your divx movie, you will have to re-encode the whole movie using a subtitle filter(vobsub). This will result in a decrease of quality.

Another method you could try is to use Nero to burn the subtitle files along with your movie. They wont be permanent but you can use Directvobsub to playback the subtitles.

This method will only work with .sub and .idx files. (These are files created by the vobsub.)

Read this guide to learn how to put everything together before burning onto a disk.
http://www.doom9.org/dvobsub.htm
(Try it out on your hardrive first to make sure that it works then burn.)

NOTE: since you arent going to create the sub files just read steps 1 and 4.

Good Luck.

Life is but a dream...so wake me up already!!!

Download and install VobSub.

Open your AVI in virtualdubmod.

Open filter menu and choose the VobSub filter.

Open subtitle files youve downloaded from the internet. (.idx/.sub files)

Click Ok.

Move the slider in vdubmod to make sure everything is ok.

Re-encode.

Or you can try the method I posted earlier on the thread.
