umm u dont need custom FW to play isos u no. u can go for devhook 0.52 (google is your friend) to emualte FW 3.11 which can play ISO's! or alternitivly u can go for the CFW path were u will not need devhook.

I would also suggest using a Custom Firmware. But for different reasons, namely the custom firmwares have a feature called "Recovery Mode" that can potentially unbrick your PSP should some homebrew mess things up, etc..
