Can someone help I have a modded ps2 slimline I modded 3 years ago with a dms4.
It has been working great until today we turned it on and nothing happened and so we checked all the cords and it can on the second time played ok and later turned it on again and it just went to a solid red screen and sat there. I turned the unit off and back on and now it doesn't power up at all. is my ps2 baby dead or can it be saved I wanted to ask before I opened the console and disturbed anything.

what version slimline did you have. If it was a V12 did you have a laser fix installed.
Teammodders.com may be a good place to ask as they also install those chips so they may have a good idea as to what may cause that.

Hi,
caps are colour coded, various shades of brown.
Same shade = same value, so, if you have a multi meter with capacitance check on it and you can quickly remove another and measure it you'll be ok.
You may have to buy 10 just to get 1.
You can try measuring in circuit but other components may interfere.

To replace the cap: remove the broken cap, remove as much solder as possible from both pads.
Melt a little bit of solder onto one pad, with new cap held in tweezers, slide it onto the pad with soldering iron on the pad, remove iron but hold the cap in place then solde rthe other end.

If your not quick with the iron the edn caps will come off - good luck.

PS: lead free type components don't solder very well
