What you are going to need in this Tutorial

A computer-???

A Xbox- $150

Action Replay- $25 (comes with memory card and adapter to pc)

Splinter cell(not platnum hits)- $2.99 @ gamestop

PROS- You can do lots of really really cool things like FTP (which is getting a connection to your xbox and access its files through your computer), put applications to be able to copy games on you hard drive, put some emulators so you can play old school games from super nintindo or sega and a few others, allows you to modify game levels like in halo. it also allows you to install a new hard drive to you xbox.

CONS- You cant play Xbox Live with a modded xbox unless you only want to play it for 12 hours cause after you log on it with a modded xbox then it will find you and you will be banned from live. Its also easy to mess up your xbox with a softmod if you delete something that is important to your xbox.( if you have a second xbox then dont worry cause then you can just get files from that)

The Tutorial

I will be teaching you the way to softmod with Action Replay and Splinter Cell 1 (not the platnum edition)

1.Buy Action Replay and Splinter Cell (or Mech Assult or James Bond 007 Agent under fire) I recommend getting Splinter cell cause its also a fun game :)

2.Download Action Replay to your computer. Then when you finish that plug in the memory card then a window will pop up asking if you want to install the memory unit to your computer..click yes.

3. Find The Linux files (there will be 2) one is the Linux games save which if you double click the save on action replay it should only be a couple blocks) then look for a Linux installer it should be around 470 blocks (thats just a average number not a number to look for) ****dont put the 5 block or anything that hardly takes anyspace..they arent real installers there just junk**** LOOK UNDER ONLINE SAVE/COMMUNITY SAVES TO FIND THESE FILES.IT WILL BE UNDER LINUX FILES AND SPLINTER CELL

4.Copy those to your memory card by dragging the files to the left side that say's memory card the Linux installer might take some time to get on your memory card.

5. unplug it when its dont then turn your xbox on and put the xbox memory card into your controller.

6. Copy both the files onto your xbox then take out your memorycard and restart the system and put splinter cell in.

7. the game will start normal, then select start game and pick LINUX games save and it will boot you to something completely different and this will be your installer where you can install the mod and check out files on your xbox and uninstall the mod

8. Now select Backup MS ( if you dont do this then you wont be able to uninstall the softmod properly)

9. Now select backup eeprom. then it takes you to another screen and select backup eeprom again. (it should say backing up:) with the smile face)

10. now you can select install softmod.

11. it should ask you ..
PAL or NTSC
Your xbox is most likely a NTSC

12.Now after you pick your xbox type now it should ask you what you want to DL. Its your choice really but what i picked was
DUAL BOOT OPEN=RETAIL CLOSED=EVOX

which means if i boot my xbox with it open it will load to the regular Microsoft Dash and with it closed it will boot Evolution X which is the mod dashboard

so pick something of that nature or you can just do the single boots it really doesnt matter

13. Will start to Download. It will take about 5-10 minutes

14. now it should have a pop up saying that its complete and it will patch and click ok or just press A then it will start to patch(its a quick process) when it says patch complete then take out your game and restart your xbox without anygames in it..(if you dont you have just wasted my time and more importantly your time) then another screen will pop up with and xbox on the top and the text will talk about pressing A to finish installation .....Press A and then when its done....ENJOY

*NOTE make sure you go to settings with your xbox connected to a router and see if the First IP says something like this 192.168.1.???
(not ? but numbers like 104 or something) if not make sure your connected to the router. If that isnt the problem

*^Go to system settings in the dash..

Scroll down to network.. DHCP or STATIC.. If you have a router select DHCP and further down check that FTP is ENABLED..

If you are direct connecting with a crossover cable select STATIC and look at the IP settings on your PC. Then look for an xbox networking guide, the backups threads are a good place to start>>

Remember to save and exit..

Reboot and see if you have a connection.^*

if still isnt working what i have done is gone back to action replay and found a different installer

To uninstall is just like installing just put the game in load Linux then just go to uninstall softmod....then just repeat steps 7-14
again
