Please can someone help me

I have got vista business on a dell dimension E520 and everything was working fine till a few days ago.

I am unable to download anything - I click on the link and get the file download box up and click on either run or save (saving to my downloads file) it downloads, then verifies but then nothing else happens and I am unable to locate it in the file I have downloaded it to!!!!!

Have been having to download to another computer on my network and then copying it across to my computer.

I have also got McAfee installed but it has always been on the computer
