Will the 360 game patch brick my modded system?

Im afraid of the recent patch included on all new game releases. is it safe to go ahead and download this patch onto my modded 360? if not, is there a way around it?

ive been dying to play that new Def Jam Icon, but the patch is prompted before you can play.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

the deal is this, if you do not say OK to the patch most of the time you will be signed off Xbox Live. But i have done them for all of mine so far that had them and nothing has gone wrong. That or just disconnect Xbox Live before you start the game, then it can not even look for an update.
