i havent had any problems with the few DVD's ive backed-up....but my parents have just gave me a butt load of dvd's for my new expanding library....none of the originals freeze up while watching them...but when i started to make back-ups,(i always skip through my back ups to make sure they look decent) quite a few freeze up or dont play at all. i dont really understand why?? like i said before ive never had any issues and now it seems quite a lot of them are having problems....one of them i watched all the way through then my friend tried to watch it the next day and it froze up on him?? any suggestions?

Sony doesn't tell us the whole story though Sony is usually decent media. Some Sony media is made in Japan and some Taiwan. Also there is the +R and -R formats and 8X and 16X. Use the free DVD Identifier or another program and let us know who the manufacturer is and give us the format and speed.

Also, the auto max speed setting may be too high, try burning 6 to 8X and see if that helps.

Try burning those at x8 speed instead of max.

"sloooow it down". Let us know how it turns out or if there's still a problem.

That's good, we got the format and speed, but it didn't tell us who the manufacturer is. That's encoded on the DVD and takes software to read (such as the DVD Identifier I suggested, or one of the other disk utilities).
