Hello,

I can successfully back-up my DVDs. What I am hoping to do now is make a mix-DVD of a many of my favorite scenes (between 10 seconds and 5 minute clips).

Can anyone give me advice on this process? Ideally, I don't want to rip an entire DVD just to get a ten second clip. I have DVDSP and Final Cut, if those tools are neceessary.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,

Billy Pooper

OK, I did something similar but with music videos, so for me it was easy to tell which chapter of the original DVD to extract, but here's what I did:

1. Find out which chapter your section is in, then use OSEx or DVD Backup (OSX) / DVD Extractor (OS9) to extract at chapter level. If you've chosen to Demux into elementary parts, ie into m2v & ac3/pcm files, that should give you files you can import into something like Final Cut Pro for editing.

2. Once you've edited the bit down in Final Cut Pro, use the Export function to export via Qicktime>MPEG2 (For this you'll have to have QuickTime MPEG2 component installed, but if you've already installed DVDSP & FCP, then you should already have this. Basically, if the MPEG2 option comes up in the Export>QuickTime menu, you've got it.)

3. What you'll then get are files you can import into DVD Studio Pro to then compile your bits and then build a DVD with...

I don't think I've missed anything out - It's been a while since I did my compilation DVD. The only thing you might have to do is just before Final Cut Pro you might have to find a way to open the sections in QuickTime and then save as DV/PAL, which will then give you files readable in FCP.

Good Luck!
