okay, so I have a nice little 19inch lcd monitor from gateway and i have been researching on how maybe i can hook my ps3, which i bought yesterday:D, haha,

and i have found the HDMI cable male to dvi-d male cord which i could hook up to my monitor. (would this work?)

would i have to buy a digital optical sound receiver to get sound?

which would cost me another 6 bills which i do not have..... or is there a way around it?
maybe some kind of converter?

any and all input would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

First make sure your monitor is HDCP compliant or the HDMI to DVI connection won't work.

For the sound just use the included A/V cable. Hook up the RCA audio cables (red and white) to your PC speaker setup and use those for sound. You may need an RCA to 3.55 mm jack adaptor.
