Every time i go to use it and there has been an update it asks if i want to update and it takes me to their site and only the paid versions are there. I have to shut it off and search google for the free one again

Disable auto update and don't use the link from the program...instead use this link: http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

all i ever do is manually download the program, then save away the program in case i ever have problems with newer versions. just (manually) check for updates once a week or so, or any time you have problems with a particular movie..
