I recently upgraded my old computer and ended up getting an external hdd case for my old hdd so I can hopefully use it on my ps2 , Wii (if they ever crack it), and my laptop. I was wondering; If I can use it with my ps2 just to watch movies on, not play games. I have swap magic, by the way.

to watch movies in what format ? ie dvd movie, or avi/divx/xvid file?

u may try running reality media player or sms media player. these r homebrew u can launch with swap magic.

i think u get the elf file for whichever program u want.

make a SWAPMAGIC folder on ur hdd and pu the elf file in there, and rename it to swapmagic.elf. or smboot1.elf

read the swap magic manual on this cos its late at night here and i cant think straight. i think u have choice of smboot0.elf thru to smboot3 or 4

if re named to smboot**.elf u will need key combination in swap magic to load. i think is L1+up, (depending on which number u gave the file it could be left, right or down, instead of up)

i hope i havent confused u to much.

I actually used the sms media player with a flash drive to watch old burnt anime discs with AVI on them. Could not get it to recognize my hdd though. Then, I found someplace online that told me how to format it to fat32. Apparently a 120gb hdd external drive is to big for FAT32.I may have to wait when I catch a 80gb hdd for 40 dollars or less around my local computer store, as it isn't something I need right away i.e. newegg.

ahh wel there u go. i didnt kno that 120gb was too id for FAT32 (or even old style FAT). i guess u learn something new everyday.

have u tried formatting the hard drive with this ?

USBeXtreme Windows mode Client Software (ENG .zip file) 166KB
A Software which running under Windows mode for format harddisk and convert games.

from usb extreme download page

that windows front end will format hard drives so the ps2 can see them, and will convert games to hdd so usbextreme can use them (if u use usbextreme, if not it'll atleast format the hdd 4 u so ps2 can use it)

That's very odd. Supposively my dos format method was nto able to format it but usb advance was able too. Maybe, I accidently entered the code for FAT. Heck it was late at night, but this works now.

Thanks bro.

Seems like sms isn't too found of HD avi's, could be that the ps2 is too underpowered to run the videos, runs normal avi's just fine. Should though if some ps2 games in 720p. Maybe it's just sms.
