Has any one got any ideas about converting VHS into AVI Mpeg or alike via S-Video?

I have a GeForce 3 Ti200 with S-Video connection and was wondering if it was posible to capture VHS and convert it to AVI, Mpeg or smililar. I have been told that this is posible but have had no luck on finding out how.

Any help would greatly be apretiated.

Well i don't know much about your S-Video connection, but it wont have sound, even if you do plug it in..well anyway..I would go to your nearest best buy(or whichever you like) And get a Dazzle 80(DVC-80), you can take comp. video(and audio) in, or S-video, but with _sound_, it costs around 80 bucks. but if you upgrade to the better one, i dunno which it is, but it will say on the box, that you can transfer from your PC to your VCR..but if all that you are looking for is to go form vhs to avi(or mpeg) this is a great product..and worth the cost($80 is alot to me :P)It also comes with a great editing software..MGI video wave 4..hope this helps

A lot of stores around here (that's in Denmark:-) sell a set of cables that will allow for you to connect your VCR to your Nvidia card. One end is Scart with outlets for S-Video (possibly also for composite) and sound. S-video goes to your s-video in on your Nvidia card, sound goes to sound (line) in on your 'puter. Capture video and sound using e.g. Virtualdub, AVI_IO or IUVCR. If your computer is fast enough you can convert to divX "on the fly" using the "fastest" setting of the codec (performance/quality setting in the "Advanced Parameters" tab). You can also use the (lossless) codec HUFFYUV, only it takes a lot of disk space. Another (lossy) codec, still with acceptable quality would be Picvideo MJPEG, but it costs money, 18$ for private use.

btw sokristi - dont supose u know of any websites that would happen to sell that cable i have been looking and have found none!
