ok part of this guide was already made by someone named PS2Menace on the these forums and i have edited it so that total n00bs that cant even read will be able to so this<>
The point of flashing your dvd drive is to enable you to play burned games on DVD+R DL disks.
Right now, the current firmware will only read the bought games
but with this firmware, it will read all original games and burned games<>
First thing you must do is check which kind of dvd drive that you have in your 360
If you have the one on the left (the samsung) then this tutorial is for you..
if you have the one on the right then it is still possible to flash but is a lot harder and riskier<>
i might write a guide for it later but there is lots of info about it on the interweb so use ur friend google.com and do some searching my friend
NOTE:
\\There are two types of the samsung drives and both look like the one in the pic but one type has one version of firmware called the ms25 and the other has a version of the firmware called the ms28\\
You will only know what type of firmware you have on your samsung drive once you entirely open the 360 to flash it<>
Now its time to get the stuff you will need. [[NOTE ALL THE LINKS I AM GIVING YOU ARE TO THE EXACT VERSIONS OF THE THINGS I USED TO SUCCESSFULLY DO THIS TRUST ME.. 1. A VIA VT 6421PCI (there are other chipsets and cards that you could use but this is the one that i used and that always works) card that you will install into one of your computers PCI ports on your motherboard[] I suggest getting it
here 2. The latest Xtreme Firmware (wht the firmware you will be flashing with is called) which is version 5.2 and can be found on the internet ( i will not give you the link to this::""::you must learn how to search on your own for it:::heres a clue---google.com
3. You'll need Xtreme Boot Maker and the one that goes with this guide can be found
here 4. YOU WILL NEED AT LAST PATIENCE, A GOOD ATTITUDE,AND SOME SMARTNESS ABOUT COMPUTERS IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE PCI CARD.
THe take ur 360 apart guide NOTE YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE YOUR 360 APART/OPEN FOR THE WHOLE FLASHING PROCESS UNTIL YOU ARE FINISHED AND AT THE TESTING (AKA eNjoyING PART)
PREP::""::
THis is the part you will have to do on your computer to get ready:::start this after you have the via card installed in your computer and drivers installed on your computer<>
1. Setting up xtreme bootmaker to work with your VIA 6421 PCI card.
Open Xtreme Bootmaker and click Open to select your firmware you'd like to use. Since this is a M28 tutorial, you only need to select between xtrem52a/b/c/d
[I would HIghly suggest you select version A of the Xtreme5.2 firmware (xtrem52a.bin)]
Next put a check mark in "Use Custom MTKFlash" and select your VIA 6421 card. Click Detect ID - I/O.
(only for MS28)>Then put a check mark in boxes labeled "M28 Bad Flash Combatibility" and "Apply Boke's patch for MS28 drives"<(only for MS28) Select your target drive (if floppy or USB stick put a checkmark into format and make bootable)
Your Xtreme Bootmaker screen should look like this when about ready to prepare the drive.
Then click prepare drive. Your floppy or USB disk drive is ready for the flash.
Yesss you can use a USB stick for this but you must have a BIOS that supports booting form a flash drive and must know how to enable this function...if you do not know any of this then just use a floppy<>
THe Reading of your original Firmware>after we read your original firmware, we will boot back into windows and make the custom firmware that fits your system.
Turn off the PC and hook up the Samsung 360 Drive SATA to a cable from the VIA 6421's primary SATA port (this should be the port that is farthest away from the metal strip that you see from the outside of the computer__it says "cn1"). I suggest using a separate SATA from the via to the dvd drive instead of from the motherboard end of the dvd drive to the via because it is a lot easier and will save you time.
THE 1st PHASE
Follow these steps in this order :
1. Turn on the 360 (use like a philips screw driver to push the little tiny button)
2. Make sure your BIOS is ready to boot from the specified source and put that source in (USB or Floppy) the computer.
3. Boot off of the device and when you get to the A:> Prompt (or whtever letter your device is) type this
MS28:: You should have an option called "Xtreme primary" or "Xtreme secondary" if you accidentally plugged the samsung drive into the second port :: if you do, turn the 360 off
Select "Xtreme primary" and count to 10 or use a watch to count 10 seconds.
Turn the 360 back on and it should read from 0-100% 4 times. When it's done and tells you to turn off the PC, then power off the 360.
MS25: You should have an option called "Xtreme primary" or "Xtreme secondary" if you accidentally plugged the samsung drive into the second port ::
Select "Xtreme primary" or "Xtreme secondary".
It will show something like: Reading ...1%_ and eventually go to 100% 4 times then it will say Please Reboot your PC. (turn off your pc by either pulling out the plug or by flipping the I/O switch on the power supply) then turn off the 360 by using the lil screw driver again.
PHASE 2
Boot Back into Windows and make custom xtreme firmware Boot into Windows on the same computer or a different one (as long as it has the firmware files) and put in the device you used (floppy or USB key)
NOTE THAT YOU MUST FLASH YOUR DRIVE WITH THE PC THAT YOU MADE THE CUSTOM MTKFLASH FILE AND PREPARED YOUR DRIVE(FLOPPY OR usb) ON Copy your orig.bin file from your floppy drive or USB key to the folder you extracted the xtreme 5.2 firmware (the same folder that has the files Make xtreme firmware and a folder called fw).
Your xtreme 5.2 folder should look like this.
Run the command "make xtreme firmware" and select which speed you'd like A/B/C/D (I use A and would recommend you use it because it keeps the read speed at the fastest it can go (12x) even for burned games)
and select you want it to report as a MS25 or MS28 (whichevr u are doin) which is option A or B
Now you should have a x52a.bin file in your xtreme 5.2 directory (or x52b.bin, x52c.bin, x52d.bin.. whichever you chose)
Copy your x52a.bin (or whtever) file to your bootdisk and power down the PC<
PHASE 3
MS28 Turn on the 360
Put in your bootdisk in the pc you are flashing with and turn it on. Boot To Dos.
When you get to the A:> Prompt type this "mtkflash w /m /sata x52x.bin" where the x52x is the name of your file and obviously, without the quotations.
You should have an option called "Xtreme primary" or "Xtreme secondary". Shut off your 360 Select "Xtreme primary" or "Xtreme secondary". then Count to 10 or look at a watch and count 10 seconds then turn on your 360
You will see 0-100% 4 times then when it says to Please Reboot your computer turn off your computer and then your 360.
Plug the 360 SATA cable back into the 360 drive and put your 360 back together and EnJOY.
MS25:: Turn on the 360
Put in your bootdisk in the pc you are flashing with and turn it on. Boot To Dos.
When you get to the A:> Prompt type this "mtkflash w /m /sata x52a.bin" where the x52a is the name of your file and obviously, without the quotations.
You should have an option called "Xtreme primary" or "Xtreme secondary".
Select "Xtreme primary" or "Xtreme secondary".
You will see: ...100% Bank 0! Ok and it will go for 2 or 3 banks then when it says Please reboot your pc, turn off your pc, then your 360.
Plug the 360 SATA cable back into the 360 drive and put your 360 back together and EnJOY.
Sorry for all the pics, just trying to make this as newbie friendly as possible and plus some people learn better with lots of pics. Also note, I didn't used DOS but just while in windows not actually doing the process of flashing to grab these images, that's why it's cmd.exe at the top of the pics.
Hope this helps you all.
Please leave comments if you have any questions on anything because i know this is going to be a big step in your life and you want to make sure everything goes ok
