I have been trying to capture video with a lossless codec with no success. I tried many codecs but I always get too many frames dropped (10-40% depending on codec) and the final result is no good.
I tried using Nero vision and virtual dub - same result.
The thing is when I capture in mpeg2 there is no problem at all.
The CPU load doesn't get over 60% (for 20,000kbps mpeg2), actually when I tried the lossless codecs it was much less around 15%.

Here is my configuration:
Asus k8n motherboard
AMD Sempron 3100+ (1.8GHz) CPU
768GB RAM
160GB Maxtor HDD (7200rpm)
Chaintech Nvidia Geforce FX 5600XT 128MB (with personal Cinema VIVO)
WinXP pro SP2

The capture disc is the win disc (different partition)
The graphic card is a budget solution, it has integrated TV tuner and VIVO.

It is unlikely it is a CPU issue, maybe it's data throughput.
Any thoughts?

Just a little advice, always use a second HD for capture, a separate partition is still the same disk. You really will see a difference in the dropped frame area.

Mentioning VirtualDub, have you seen this version?
