SMS v.2.1

After I installed SMS v.2.1 on my ps2 I couldn't get connected to my home network (always worked before on earlier versions) so I thought I could change it back to an old version but that didn't help.
What can I do? Is my Ethernet port on the ps2 fried (my brother got the same problem)?
I use ps2client on the pc side and sms on the ps2 side, it has always worked before but when I upgraded it didn't anymore.
Does anyone have a suggestion of what the problem could be?

I have a v.14 slim ps2 with swap magic 3.8coder.

I use sms 2.3 and RadHostClient and all works fine.
