First allow me to say that, being a noob, Afterdawn has answered a lot of questions and given great advice in the past.
Now with that being said, I thought I would offer something back. I, like a lot of you, Have been converting/backin up my DVD collection for quite some time now. In the past I would just copy them to a DVD and put the original on a self untill my kids killed the copy,then do it again. Now with hardware becoming cheeper (i got a 400gig HD for 100$) I started converting my DVDs to avi/mp4(for psp).
Now here is the set up I have you all tell me what you think of it. I have 4 computers in my house. All have been the result of upgrades, so why jsut get rid of a perfectly good PC just because its a bit slower. My wife and I both have our own computer, my daughters share a computer in thier room and I have a custom made Media pc on my Surround Sound receiver. Its nothin special, and old P3, 700 mhz, 512 ram,Nvida Gforce 128 PCI SVideo out, runnin XPsp2. I have everyting set up wirelessly, so that we all can enjoy the wonders and versatility of the technology.
Now when I started convertin DVD-AVI it would take about 2-5 hours... start to finish.. not to mention the down time i would have my pc while i was doing this. So a couple of days a started researchin different software for the job. I came across the best all in 1 tool I have ever seen, and I've seen/tried them all.ImTOO DVD Ripper Platinum 4 will convert a dvd, either straight rom your dvd drive, or from your HD to any format you can think of. All of the codec's are included. It also does PSP,IPods and the new Zume. Another Plus of this is that it removes teh copyright-protection as well, so no need for AnyDVD to run either (altho, knowing how fast they keep beefin up the encryption its a good idea to ahve it around). Now for the best part, not that this nifty lil program doesnt do enough already, It will convert a movie from start to finish.. in roughly 2 hours. That is the part that sold me on this the most, besides being an all in 1 converter, the speed at which it does it it simply amazing. The quailty is perfect in its self. It is NOT freeware, so you do have to pay for it, but it is worth it for you to try.
I have had no problems with it what so ever, and just thougth I would post it out there for other Nubs like myself to stumble across.
