I have a copy of Devil May Cry 3 that the guy who sold me the ps2 (matrix chipped) had copied and gave it to me. The game was running perfectly, several times, and yesterday i played too. Hours. No problems. This morning I tried to start it, and it lagged so badly between screens that I thought the PS2 had actually frozen...The music even stopped when it wasn't supposed to. What happened? Other games work just fine, copied on identical discs. I didn't even take the disc out of the console, so no scratches could have been produced. Please help
Maybe there's a possibility of the game slowing down within that particular moment of the game? I know a lot of people have had some strange problems with Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria and the tutorial screen yet others had absolute success and no problems at all. I suppose it depends on a few things but just leaving it out there for you to think about. As for the problem, I can't say much other then reburning the game like the previous poster had said and perhaps using better media if the disc DMC3 is on is inferior.
I don't have the original disc...Can I copy the copy?
Now the game doesn't even run. Just stays black. When I mean slow down, I mean like when picking up an item, it taes 30 seconds for the name of it to appear. When I die, it takes 30 seconds for the text to appear...

Yes, you can copy the copy. Just extract the contents of the ISO, make a new ISO of those contents and burn that ISO. As for the incredibly slow down, could you please mention if you've tried other games at least and might have had other weird problems too? There could always be the possibility that the laser has begun to die and the guy sold it to you when it was near its peak, who knows.
All other games run fine, originals and copies. Can't I burn the disc to another one directly without having to free HD space? (With a dvd burner and Alcohol 120%)
Here's a list of things you can check for optimal performance.
Update the firmware on your burner.
Trying booktyping to DVD-ROM if your program doesn't do it by default.
Use good quality media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
Burn at half the speed of what the disc can support.
Use a burn program like Nero, IMGBurn or DVD Decryptor.
Free up as much memory as you can when burning.
Nope to copying it directly, hence, why you need programs like gnie to extract the files. There's no way in my belief, understanding and knowledge that you could burn a game directly.
