As we all know, Sony's PS3 is struggling to catch up with XB360 & Wii and has bombed so far in the UK (for obvious reasons).
Here are some ways PS3 can start making some quick ground back.
- Sell PS3 and Resistance together at no extra cost with a 2nd joypad.
- Offer a 2 free accessories option when buying PS3 (HDMI cable etc)
- Throw in a free Blu-ray movie or a voucher to get one free
- Give away PSP for gamers who buy PS3+2games+HDMI cable
- Lower the price
Here are some things that Sony need to get rid of ASAP
- Being cheap with accessories i.e. HDMI cable not included, one joypad only.
- Poor P.R. and poor customer relations, Phil Harrison a prime culprit
- To expand on the customer side Sony did not include Rumblepads because of the legal battle but they claimed rumbletech was yesterday's technology (Total B.S.), they removed backwards compatability as they are focusing on next gen games in UK/Europe (Ridge Racer 7, NBA, NHL, Fight Night, Virtua Tennis 3, Call of Duty 3, Tiger Woods 07, and VF5 all available on launch). The launch games all suggested that franchise is the focus and NOT next gen titles. Customers don't like to be treated like fools. Be as honest as possible.
The PS3 is the powerhouse of this generation but without a large userbase that is serviced correctly, it won't get a chance to stretch it legs. I hope Sony can turn the bad start around. Only time will tell.
To Nintendo's credit, by designing an innovative controller that is a few leaps forwards forces designers to try to be fresh with ideas. A powerful platform alone won't guarantee extra power and storage is used innovatively. Let's see what happens, I hope Sony comes out on top!
