I downloaded a file a long time ago, don't remember what it was. I'm pretty sure it was free ware for a network monitor or something. However, it wasn't. It ran a command prompt window, and I couldn't do anything, it screwed my windows key (I have NO idea what it is), and it won't let me activate it.

Once I turn on my computer it takes forever for it to boot, once it gets to the Windows XP load screen it takes a good 3-5 minutes then it loads Windows. I type in the password, it says that my copy of Windows isn't activate and that it is past the 30 days. I click the thing to activate it. It opens up the Windows activation screen. It ask if I want to activate Windows now, I say yes and it hangs for like a second or two then it says that Windows is already activated and says to click "Ok" to exit. When I click ok it logs out of Windows and I'm back at the Login screen where I need to put the password in again.

I've taken the hard drive out of the computer before and put it in another computer that has Windows XP on it. I can access the hard drive and it's contents, just not mine. My content on the hard drive has the privacy thing, so it won't let me access it. Is there any way that I can use a program to find out what the password stored for the admin account is or how to fix the windows activating or key or whatever the heck is preventing me from getting to my stuff? I don't really know if it is the key or activation per se, but I assume that if I can't activate it, it would have to corrupt me Windows key as well. Would that be a correct assumption?

Any help will be MUCH appreciated! Thanks VERY much in advance.

Xero.

PS - One other thing, if I let it sit long enough at the login screen the computer will make an awful squeal and restart. It just did it, and now it's saying operating system not found...
