I have a PSP and it is a 2.81 TA-82 motherboard and i was wondering if i can downgrade it or upgrade it because i want to play homebrew games and i want a custom firmware. Please someone tell me if i can use the network update to update my psp or is this a bad option?

Well Sagam... Your going to have to upgrade to Sony's 3.03 firmware in order to downgrade to 1.50. In order to downgrade from 3.03 to 1.50 you will need an unpatched copy of GTA: LCS. You can tell it's unpatched by the copyright date and from the update ver 2.00 that it displays for the game update on your psp.
How to tell while the games in the box...
copyright 2005=unpatched
copyright 2006=patched

If you do not have a copy with the 2.00 update then you can most likely rent one from a local video store or find one at a local second hand video game store.

Anyways the tutorials you will need can be found in my signature. Follow these steps in order...

1. Downgrade from 3.03 to 1.50 (link in my signature)
2. Upgrade from 1.50 to 3.03 oe-c (link in my signature)

Once your at 3.03 oe-c, you put your .iso and .cso games in your ISO folder located in the root of your memory stick. And your emulators and homebrew applications in your GAME150 folder located in the PSP folder.

dont use the network update
download the eboot file from here
http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmware-3.03-PSP/pg/12/fid/11844/catid/163

in your memory stick inside the game folder you need to create a UPDATE folder (with capitals)
then place the EBOOT.PBP in the UPDATE folder

ms:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\EBOOT.PBP

then in your psp menu go to game --» memory stick , then run the 3.03 upgrade

you can find the downgrader guide here

this says if you want to go from 1.50 to 3.03( and vice versa) but what about going from 2.81 to 3.03

my dude...theres a difference one of them has 3.03oe-c and the other is just regular 3.03. If you bothered to check the links you would notice that it has a download file inside the tutorial to get from 2.81 to 3.03.
