I have the ILO DVDR05 and I have not used it much. I decided to record my video from my dv camcorder to DVD. Well I did it but apparently I did not finalize it. I have another one I did and it plays in the other DVD players but the Sony disk will only play in the ILo. Is there anyway I can finalize it or copy it now. I have since recorded over the original tape. I was trying to save some money by putting on DVD then reusing the tape but after this I will be putting on DVD and saving original dv tape. Please help me , I dont want to loose this video. It is off my children!!! Thanks in advance...

your problem is not tragic. If your burner recognizes the disk and it plays there but not on other dvd players it could be a media problem where the players are picky on what media it will play. this is what I would do:

1. use DVDDecrypter or DVDFab Decrypter and rip your disk to the hard drive!
2. check to make sure the ripped DVD plays on the computer. If it does then burn with Nero or ImgBurn to better media!

there are plenty of reasons why certain dvds won't play in other players:

1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:

4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.

When I put it in my pc it does not recognize it, thinks it is blank. I played disk in my ILO dvd recorder and recorded it on a tape then recorded it back to dvd with a sony DVD+RW and it worked but it isnt as good a quality. I wish I could find a way to finalize that first disk. I was gonna copy it with Nero but it thinks the drive is empty when I put the disk in.
