how i i fit a 4.7gig game file on to a dvd?? when it says dvd 5 but the dvds only hold 4.4gig? cheers in advance.

Single layer recordable DVDs hold

4,707,319,808 bytes (DVD-R)
4,700,372,992 bytes (DVD+R)

Disk manufacturers, (HDD and DVD) use

1 GB = 1 billion or 1,000,000,000 bytes.

So, according to that, a DVD5 holds around 4.7 "Gigabytes".

However, just to confuse things, computer file sizes are measured using 1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. (1024 x 1024 x 1024 bytes)

Using this measurement, a DVD5 holds 4.384 GB (DVD-R) or 4.378 GB (DVD+R)

My "160 GB" hard disk will only hold around 149 GB of files.

Check the file size in bytes. It may be that the file will fit.

yeah bit of sarcastic answer like, just wonder why the guy who made the game file made it so it didnt fit on a dvd and made the files 4.72 gig? and if theres anyway i can back it up to dvd?

I'm sorry if you thought I was being sarcastic, I didn't intend to be. I thought I was being helpful.

The question, "How do I fit a 4.7 gig file on a DVD" comes up very very often, I thought I was seeing an old friend.

I now know that sometimes game images can exceed DVD5 size. For example to cope with this you can get a DVD5 kit for Halo2. Maybe you should read this guide which includes tips for dealing with oversized games.

thanks for reply, seems all a little bit to complecated to me :( think i'll i just try and pick a DVD9 today and use that to back it up. thanks anyways
