I am planning to purchase a DVD recorder - any advice on which one is better? I heard Pioneer DVR-A04 is good - but it only burns DVD-R/RW. A better suggestion was given to me - HP DVD 200XI (burns DVD+R/RW). I'll also look at Ricoh MD5125A, and Philips DVDRW228K - or maybe you know a better one? Purpose of the DVD recorder drive - (1) make backups of my PC (no DVD-RAM), (2) back up my vacations footage, (3) my sister's video presentations. As I understand, DVD+R is a new standard, and will work with most newer DVD players - am I wrong?

Thanks.

I would rather go with DVD-R as the discs are cheaper and it is generally speaking beating the crap out of DVD+R in markets nowadays.

how about looking at the panasonic lfd311 or sometimes marketed as the mirror lfd310/1 it is a good drive plays most things including dvd ram 4.7gb and 9.4 gb ideal for backing up your hard drive . try to get the panasonic home movie kit as you get better software i.e primo and sonic as well as a firewire card and leads. this is the one that i wished i got as mirror only supplied vob software and drivers ( not as good as primo ) Good luck !!!

mostwired,
I, on the other hand like DVD+R, I have less trouble with it in standalone players. I have found +R media close to the price of -R media ($0.89 ea.Mertline)

Pick a burner for "all seasons", one that will burn all media, then you can experment for yourself.

I like USB to DVD an excellent program to convert my Hi-8 video film to DVD.

Keep asking about Burners, if you can find Praetor in this forum, he's a good one to ask -

Good luck
