AR Max ......help me PLEASE!!

I recently purchaced the AR max ver.3.50,and have a slim ps2 model 70051. I bought this with the only intention of playing old emulators on my ps2. I have followed every tutorial to the best of my abilities,and still no luck to playing any of them. I have tried Imbnes,snes,and genesis. I am a complete newbie to this. I was pretty good when i had a dreamcast,and could figure out that stuff, but I am going crazy and wasting cd after cd,with no luck. I also am using Nero burning rom as well. Can someone please give me a step by step as to what to do to get these to work??I am serioulsy about to smash my ps2!!
