I am backing up some of my DVD's and i am using ANYDVD to unprotect then using DVD2ONE 1.2.3 then Nero 6.0.0.11 and Nero says this at the end of the burns "can only write at 2x instead of 4x because speed of source data is too slow". Is there anything i can try to speed it up to 4x or close to it?
Heres what i got

Win xp sp1
amd 2000+
256MB pc 2700 ddr 333MHz
pioneer ao6
NERO 6, ANYDVD, DVD2ONE 1.2.3

Nero's just being a bitch , your system should be fine for burning at 4x what type of media you using, if its not that get a trial copy of recordnow max and try burning at max speed see if this works .

Some mornings I wake up grumpy other mornings I let her sleep !!!

I've had this too, its actually quite a common problem but ahead don't appear to acknowledge it.
Good news is there is a cure.
Run your speed test again this time do not click "done" but select "save log".
Read through log till you find the following section:

Existing drivers:
File 'Drivers\CDUDF.SYS': Ver=5.0 (141), size=228736 bytes, created 11/01/2001 05:00:00
File 'Drivers\CDR4_2K.SYS': Ver=2.5 (094), size=52464 bytes, created 29/10/2003 22:14:17
File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=1.00 (1038), size=22089 bytes, created 29/10/2003 22:14:17
File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.02.50a, size=17136 bytes, created 10/08/2003 15:25:20 (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)
File 'Drivers\atapi.sys': Ver=5.1.2600.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920), size=86912 bytes, created 29/08/2002 01:27:50 (Adapter driver for rec)
File 'Drivers\vobid.sys': Ver=1, 1, 0, 20, size=29239 bytes, created 01/08/2003 13:47:24 (Adapter driver for src)

Offending item is the vobid.sys driver (from pinnacle easy DVD). This seems to overide the Nero driver.
My guess is that Nero is not the only burning software you have/have had on your PC. Until you uninstall all traces of the others your drive will be locked.
After removing the vobis driver my 4X Teac dv-50 leapt to 5.7 times on test tho' still locked to 4X when burning.
Look out for funny drive assignments and virtual cd/dvd's in my computer.
Good luck.

That seems like a pretty wierd problem, I never usually write discs at 4x. I find that there is more of a chance to end up with a coaster writing at anything over 2.4x

Unless you use decent media, you will nearly always have problem writing at 4x, unless you have a kick-ass system lol.
