You can run it through VirtualDub to change to a lower sampling rate.

Drag the AVI onto VDub, click >Video >Full Processing > Compression.

Select a codec, example 'XVID MPEG-4' (That codec will have to be installed on your PC for this to work) click 'Configure'

Click on the button so it shows 'Target Bitrate'.
Adjust the slider so it shows '100' (pretty low quality ..meaning smaller size), then ok..ok back to the main VDUB screen.

Click File > save as AVI and give it a name..

VirtualDub, look for 'stable' download.

Fast recompress would be better. Also you can use the built in bitrate calculator to figure out the bitrate to hit 90MB rather than just randomly entering one.

You will probably want to resize down though as well as re-encode the audio. Possibly resampling and downmixing to mono to.

OK

This is doing my head in. I have 13 episodes of around 359KBs which means it wont fit on a dvd as avi's, all I want is to take about 20KBs off each but every time I try either of the two meathods above they compress to about 90KBs which is really crap as the video is pixalated and the lips are out of sync.

Help please

As per what I said. Use a bitrate calculator and you should be able to get filesizes of whatever you like (requires 2 passes for accurate filesize and quality).

Have you tried autogk or dr DivX 2.0? These programs are easy to use and friendly enough to get your work done, using XviD or DivX.
