best way to burn AVI movie file that's 700-800 mb?

So I have a couple movies on my computer that's about 700mb to 800mb and are AVI files. What is the best method to burn these movies onto a disc so I can watch them on a TV/dvd setup instead of on my computer? Should I burn them onto a regular cd-r or dvd? and what type of file should I burn them as? Thanks!

Try the Guides tab on this website. Unless you have a DVD player capable of playing DivX or XviD, you need to convert.
