Wow - never knew about it! I haven't got the PS3 yet but I haven't heard about this background being changed throughout the day and year!
I got similar background for my old Vaio laptop (it based on 24 hrs - morning - sunrise color (very light purple) background, midday - light blue background, late afternoon - sunset color (orange/red) background and finally night - starry background (black with many white dots).
By the way, I know this is a silly question since I haven't got a PS3 yet but this thread got me wondering:
Is it possible to put your own wallpaper onto PS3 menu background? or not? Just wondering that's all.
