SIXAXIS LED HELP

hi i was wondering if the 4 LEDS on the top of the SIXAXIS are surface mount, i would like to remove them and make them blue, and if they are surface mount how do i install them,


this is the stock photo, can someone tell if they LEDS ont he top are surface mount?

and this is what i want it to look like.

they are surface mount... careful not to damage the pads... but that is a good mod

but they have to be installed on a right polarity... first try it didint work, its most likely in reverse..

Yes they are surface mound you can see them, they are even labeled.

use a very small tip soldering iron, add some solder to each end then heat eash end in turn for about .5 seconds until the led seem loose and just wipe it off with the soldering iron, to the same to put them on but do not wipe. they will self center if the solder on both ends are liquid. just dont heat-up too much.

If the wipe does not work heat as descpibed then quickly tap the PCB on a had surface.

unless you have done a lot of soldering and have a good iron, you could brick your controller.

if you get too much solder on the PCB you can use the tap method to remove, somtimes its best to add even more solder b4 tapping.

but its best to use a solder mop to remove excess solder.

The tap method can also be used to open hold that have become blocked. some times better than a sucker esp on double sided PCB's

If there are no marking, one end should have a larger metal bit than the other.

If not your have to just put them on and if tey don't work then swap them round, they will not break putting them the wrong way round.

One question are you shure they are red LED's and not just use red filters. not at home so can't check.

The cathode end of LEDs is always the one that is marked, this is the one that goes on the negative side.
