Hi there.
I just finished a project, editing 2 nights of danceshows, and it has become a registration of nearly 3 hours of dance / music.
First I made 1 evening, and edited a nice DVD with Ulead Moviefactory. No problems whatsoever.
But now I merged the two projects (evenings) into 1 project, and rendered the 3 hours into one AVI file of 43Gb (....).
Now I have 86Gb's free to render and such, but when I use Moviefactory it says at the end (!!) : "cannot create file" !
There is still more than enough space to write, so I guess this is due to another problem.
Is there a maximum filesize, because Moviefactory indicates that it will be a 7,7Gb DVD (I wanted to uses DVDshrink after making the movie....with a nice menu....), and I thougth it would compress the 43Gb AVI to 7,7Gb DVD VOB/IFO files and such.
Maybe there is a simple way to compress the AVI before using Moviefactory ?
Because I get no problems with one evening (20Gb)...
Help ? The dansstudio would really like to see the final DVD :s

Sorry mate you must be getting the size wrong - it can't possibly be a 43Gb AVI file at only 3 hours - maybe you mean 4.3Gb's? Check again.

There is still a problem. DVD video files consume much more space than AVI - infact nearly four times as much and yet the average three hour movie on DVD will only be about 8- 9Gb.

no, he is right. When I download an hour from my minidv camcorder, the uncompressed AVI file is about 13(thirteen) gb. Can you reauthor the dvd files to the harddrive instead of the dvd-r so that you can try to shrink it. If you have to you could try to write to two dvd-s, and then shrink and then reauthor. I am not sure if it can be done like that but let me know.

I am now processing it with tmgenc, would that do the trick (it takes a loooooooong time to finish....) ?
I am thinking of making 2 dvd's, and then I could easily join them ? Is that what you're saying ?
I never done that before, so is there a tool with a wizard, or a tutorial of this ?
Regards,
Marco

Not sure that Temgenc will do it but if I were you I'd forget trying to make one disc and just create two seperate - you can add a caption at the end of the first like 'end of part one' or something.

Well, that is someting I can fall back to. For now I'm trying to create 2 directories woth VOB/IFO files (almost done), and with AVI_MPEG_RM_Joiner it would be possible to join them together ?
Well, I'll try some things to get it to work on 1 DVD, and if everything fails, I'll burn 2 DVD's.
If there is somebody who has an idea how to get it on 1 DVD, please reply ;)

Why not convert it all to divx suitable for CDs use and then reconvert it to Mpeg 2 and if still too big use DVD Shrink again. Just an idea.
