NEC 1300 Burner

I am having trouble with dvd xcopy gold and my NEC 1300. The program would read the source dvd but would freeze and not respond as soon as I inserted the blank Ritek -R media. I was told that the gearworks burning engine does not work with the NEC burner. I was told to use the nero burn engine and I did so. All worked well, But now my Panasonic DVD player won't play the burned disks. I am very new at this, I would appreciate any help.
