DVD backups dont play right

burnt an original and now i burn another copy from that. I then play it in my DVD player and it plays fine and then all of a sudden it freezes. What could be the problem? Burnt the copy on 2x speed.

this problem has been discussed, though as far as i know, no definitive solution has been found. Do a search for thread "Skipping and stopping !!!" to see some messages on a problem similar to yours. Clicking on link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/47945#244477 might also work. Good luck and let us know if u find a solution.

Probs some fault with your media because I have had a DVD which has played fine, then skipped and suddenly it freezes.
I played it in my computer a couple of times and then tried it in my sandalone. It now works perfectly!

I don't understand how u come to the conclusion that something is wrong with the media , if the same dvd that would freeze on your computer works fine on your stand alone player. Do you mean the same disc, or a different copy of the same movie on a separate disc?

Well my 2 cents worth......
If you are copying on the fly and using the same type media, there can be a slight speed mismatch between reader and writer ESPECIALLY if they are 2 different branded dvd units.
And also HOW your IDE setup is configured.
It is always recommended to burn AT THE slowest speed if this is the case.
If it still fails, then try different methods for on the fly - a simple copy and paste - this could also work.
If not then try creating an image of the first disc and burning the image back, but BTW check out the size of the image and also your HD format - NTFS for >4Gb and FAT32 for <4Gb....
Make sure you are not multitasking (recommended to close ALL unused programs whilst burning), especially if you have low pc specs, higher pc specs can handle it though. - inc turn screensaver off - these can all cause some sort of buffer under runs....

Its all about Buffer under runs! Make sure that you BUN prevention is ticked so that there are no freezes or jerks in the video.
As for your earlier reply, the PC DVD Rom drives have slightly more powerful lasers that somehow fix my DVD's which freeze or break up the pic just by playing the movie on my PC.

burnt to hard drive first then copy from there and everything seems fine now. So must be a read/write error somehow. Weird still knowing heaps of others work and only a few don't.

Can that be right. I thought the advantage of digital video is that copy = original in that the 1 and 0's remain the same. That is why the studios are so against DVD copying because the copy is the same as the master. It is not like VHS where copying(and playing) introduces degradation of the original source.

GOLDBERG, how is your IDE setup.
To eliminate buffer under runs your reader and writer NEED to be on differnet IDE ports.
My setup as follows:
Primary Master - 60Gb HD
Primary Slave - DVDROM
Secondary Master - PIONEER A106 RW
Secondary Slave - DVD/CDRW COMBO
This gives me flawless 'on the fly burns'
...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............

LOL, hehe "NEED to be on differnet IDE ports."
They are not on mine and they work fine! To get the best, no error results, you need to have the DVD writer set to master and the rom drive as secondary. That's all!

This is my setup! i have the dvd-rw as the primary master! as i dont need HD's on it! its on its own eide cable with no other drives...
Primary Master - PIONEER DVR106D
Primary Slave - empty!
Secondary Master - LITEON 52/24/52
Secondary Slave - SAMSUNG 48/16 DVD
Serial-1 ATA - 80 gig maxtor
Serial-2 ATA - 80 gig maxtor
I get great dvds!

Hi Rotary, Not bad.
Like your setup!! Are those SATA HD's fast as I have heard that you only get about 90MB/sec instead of the 150MB?_

hi
I have no idea what speed in numbers they are BUT! i had 2x 40 gig ATA133 drives before and believe me the rise from ATA133 to ATA150 serial they RIP!!!! must be the serial connection thing?
But to its disadvantage both drives get HOT! so i had to place a fan 80 mm blowing on them - you wont keep your fingers on these suckers for long!
Goes with the speed i spose
