Hi .. is there a guide of some sorts for newbies - those of us that are interested in checking Bit Torrent out, but have no experience setting it up on our computer,l much less downlaoding and uploading? I have scoured the messages, but I cannot find a newbie guide. - or , as a newbie, should I go with WinMX, or maybe EMule? I just know that Kazaa lite has ALOT of files that are blank, broken or misnamed. thanks for any help.

OK well here goes!

Kazaa = fast but fake broken downloads of big files...use only for music and small files.

Emule = slowish at first but goes faster the longer you use it (few days). No fakes and gooood files.

Bit Torrent = seems to me like perfect in betweener between kazaa and emule... not as fast (although I have d/l as 120 with 1mb/s line) but mine averages at 60/70 k/s)

Install Bit Torrent from the official site. I would also recommend using the official client as others allow you to set the upload speed...which izzzz not gooooddd. There will be no program to run so don't look for any in your start menu.

Search the web for torrent links and find one that have what you want. Go here for bunch of links: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/42158

Once you find a link you will want to save the .torrent to your HD. Once that is done double click on the .torrent file. It will open the client GIU and ask you to pick a location to save the file to. Choose a location and click OK. The file will then start d/l and u/l at the same time. Please leave download GIU open after finished d/ling for few hours so others can still d/l from you.
Download speed WILL pick up after 1 or 2.

You can resume he file at any time. Just close BT window and when you want to resume open the torrent file and select where the partly d/led file is.

Hope this works...
