I have some data that I would like to back-up onto DVD media.
What type is best +R or -R?
What brand is the best for long term storage?
Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

All depends on who you ask and what you plan to use them for. Basically, for storing just data, either would be just fine IMO. As long as your burner will support both formats, you should be fine.

Many here will tell you that you cannot usually go wrong with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim discs. Basically anything manufactured in Japan (MIJ) are good media that hold well over time. IMO, these would be the ones I would stick with.

That's an old thread creaky - Nov 04, don't know if I would agree with some of it now...Ram disc being a poor third for example...seems ideal for data storage...

I use DVD-RAM for data storage. Some retail DVD players ARE DVD-RAM compatible. You just have to look at the details.
