Quicktime movie into something that works in movie maker, HELP PLEASE!!!

My apologies if this subject is covered elsewhere, I have read so many threads hoping to find the answer that my head hurts! To save myself further suffering I've just started a new thread and I sincerely hope someone out there can help me.

I have a file that came originally from a sony 3ccd mini-dv, it was edited on a mac (final cut pro, I think) and now can only be opened on my pc with quicktime and also Nero showtime. It will not open with any other base model programs I have. I need help transferring this file into something that I can edit inside Windows Movie Maker. The file is about 1.5 gigabyte in size and since this is a one-off, it'd be nice if I didn't have to pay for this program.

Once again I'm sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but with my limited proficiency, I need all the help I can get!
