Diff between custom firmware and downgrading?

Whats the differenve between downgrading to 1.5 and upgrading to a custom firmware? what can you do with a custom firmware.
is 3.03 OE or whatever a custom firmware?

3.03 oe-a/b/c are custom firmwares 3.40 oe-a is the latest. custom firmwares emulate 1.5 and the latest firmware. you have to downgrade to 1.5 before you can install custom firmware.

what is the benefit of custom firmware??

and curious, later on, can you decide you actually want the latest firmware?

basically cutom firmware looks, feels and has the same benefits from the latest genuine firmware from Sony.

The HUGE benefit is that the firmware allows you to do things with your psp that Sony dont really want you to do. I.E play games directly from your mem stick, and customize all your xmb etc.

whoa really? thanks a lot!
do you need to have GTA Liberty city stories to load things in the custom firmware too? (like when you downgrade to just 1.5) it might be hard getting an unpatched one now

oh and... when you play Playstation 1 games... how does the L2 R2 funtion work , with the psp since there isnt l2 and r2?

u DONT need gta lcs, and the l2/r2 are done via the anolog nub (in standard controls)

so, moving the analog left is l2 and right is r2?? cant do it both at the same time?
(sorry i just dont know how the L2 and R2 work exactly, explain a bit? please)

Both at the same time would be up... You can also change it so you can use the analog stick for control and the d-pad for the l2/r2 emulation, and a few other ways... You need a copy of GTA:LCS (Unpatched) to downgrade from 3.03
