I got a wiikey. Wish I had got a wiifree EDIT: Actually, I like my wiikey but want it with audiofix. It's really a personal choice. Right now, Wiikey doesn't have audiofix (like it said it did. needed for Naruto GNT 4 and other games.) but there will be an update... soon... whatever soon means to the wiikey team.

Anything with audio streaming won't work. The entire Naruto GNT series is included in this. Pikmin 2 gave me a problem in the opening movie but you can skip that and it'll play out just fine. According to wikipedia: "Naruto GNT 1-4, Ikaruga, Eternal Darkness, Wave Race, and some others" are unplayable because of the audiofix bug in the wiikey.

Do you think the wild has the same problem.

I don't know. Wiifree users say they have working audiofix.

I have the WiiD and have no problems. As far as Game Cube games I have played some of mine (but none are titled above) and haven't had a problem with them.

Plus WiiD has a reset to default feature and has the ability to disable the Modchip. Which could come in handy with future games that have online capability.

A few things you will need to Mod your Wii with the WiiD...

1. Triwing Screwdriver to open the Wii (You can easily get these at whatever online store you buy your WiiD from)

2: WiiD Modchip (Buy on an online Mod Store)

3. 15WAT Soldering Iron and as thin as solder as you can get(if you do not have good soldering skills then you should send it somewhere to get the chip installed or get someone that you trust with their soldering skills)

4. Guide on disassembling the Wii: http://www.wii-ftw.com/?page=disassembling_wii

5. Guide on points to solder to when doing a Quick Solder or Wire Solder (Wire solder is most recommended): http://www.wiidmod.com/downloads.htm

6. Update of the WiiD firmware (as of now the WiiD Firmware 02 is the latest): http://www.wiidmod.com/downloads.htm

Here is a guide and review of how to install the WiiD and update the firmware...

http://www.wii-ftw.com/?page=wiid.install.review

You do not have to remove or disable the WiiD when doing a system update.

The main difference between the Wiikey and WiiD is if Nintendo ever does put in some type of Mod detection during updates (or online play) the WiiD can be disabled without removing it completely.

Where Wiikey has no disabling feature.

You don't really need a disabling feature as of yet but if there ever comes a time when you do then in my opinion it would be better to have a Modchip with a disabling feature on it.

But what about the GC games I was told that wiikey can't play all GC games and Wild can is this true.

hehe I love these which Mod is better threads.

I am not saying the Wiikey is bad. Like I said they pretty much are the same but the WiiD does have the disabling feature as a few other Modchips do also. That was the main reason i went with the WiiD instead of the Wiikey.

I am sure the next generation of Modchips that Wiikey puts out will have this feature. I am just suprised it dosen't already have it.

I read on some other threads and other forums that say the WiiD has better support for the Game Cube games then what Wiikey has.

As I stated above in my previous post I have of yet had any trouble with the Gamecube Games that I have played off the WiiD. But I will not say WiiD is 100% supported by all Game Cube games because I wouldn't know.

i think whatever chip u go for regardless of what was best "thought" of or most popular at the time.. there will come a time when u may wish you had chosen a different path.

i personally bought the 1st wii i could get hold of which was already modded as they are like rocking horse poo to get hold of here
if it had been the wiid or cyclo or whatever - as long as it booted backup games andplayed most gc games it does me.

in the future i cant see myself changing chips will just live with the limitations as i did with the xbox(no live) etc

all chips have the good points and bad points - take the plunge choose ya chip and live with the consequences :) by the time you make ur mind up another chip will have been released and you will be back at square one again

I'm going to add my two cents here. I've installed everything from the wiinja (both versions) to wiikey, wiid and cyclowiz. I've tested all of them with current games and media. My favorite by far is the wiikey. It's the easiest to install and it reads all kinds of media burnt at different speeds. Personally I use the wiikey and I haven't had a single issue with it. I wouldn't purchase something based on the sole CHANCE that nintendo tries to block it. The guys behind the wiikey have been in the game for a long time (with other console mods) and in the off chance that nintendo does anything to brick the wii (which they have already said they'd never do to there customer base)then the wiikey team will have an answer for that, with an upgrade or hack. I'm not the least bit worried about my wiikey.

All this time I thought it was 'wild' My fault but what make you pick the wiikey over the rest mostly wiid.

@spawn1980

You will never get everyone to agree with what Modchip is best. You need to read up on each Modchip and choose the one that you think is best for you.

As to some of the points that Kafluke has stated about the Wiikey well that is his opinion and it is just as easy to install the WiiD as what it is to install the Wiikey. Plus I have had no trouble with my Wii backups or Gamecube backups. I also read in a review that WiiD has been around for a while they just didn't manufacture their Modchip till they got most of the bugs worked out. They didn't rush their product out to be the first Modchip.

I did allot of research and reading up on the difference between them and have run across allot of Wiikey owners that wished the Game Cube compatibility was better.

I have read also that the WiiD has good compatibility for the Game Cube games. Plus the added feature for disabling the modchip with the WiiD seemed to be a better fit for me.

But you will never get everyone to agree on what chip is the best. Plus you will always have die hard fans of a certain chip that has been out for a while and the popularity of it makes it stand out more. But that doesn't mean there isn't a better chip out there that isn't as popular because it is just an up and coming chip.

Here is a guide on what Modchips are out there and what features each offers. But keep in mind this doesn't offer insight on how compatible each chip is with Game Cube games etc. etc.

larrylje, I agree. It is just my opinion. He asked for my opinion and I personally prefer the wiikey. I don't play any of the gamecube games that are incompatable. My reference to the wiikey team being around was with regards to other mods they have done, not just the wii and they didn't rush to be the first either.

The wiid is a great chip. I would be happy with a wiid just as much as my wiikey. But like I said, neither I nor my kids play any of the GC games that some wiikey users are having issues with so it doesn't really matter to me.

The only chip that I would really recommend against would be the wiinja. Pieces of crap!
