I've been burning Star Trek The Next Generation, season 2, using DVD X Copy Gold, "Disk 1 and 2 of the series", splitting them into 2 disks of each, then using Platinum for "Disks 3 and 4 of the series", I was able to compress them onto one disk each, however I'm having trouble with Disk 5 of the series, I can only read 35% and then it stops, can you give me any tips or hints to rectify this problem.

I'm not familiar with DVD X Copy Gold, but you could try ripping the disk to your HD with DVD Decrypter. If this rips the files succesfully, you could then use DVD X Copy Gold to compress the files from your HD.
Alternatively, give DVDShrink a try...

I used DVD Shrink to back up my ST-TNG Season 2; all six discs.
