the problem that I am having is that in the last week the highest read speed of a dvd that i can get is about 4.5 x I use to be able to get around 14 x with both. I formated my hard drive and re installed win xp hopoing it was a software error but no luck does any one know why this could happen i have had the dvd burner since july

maxtor 40 gig 7200 rpm
